This “Psychiatric Study” theory was sent in by Mary Caldis on May 19, 2006.
My theory is based on the fact that every one of the main characters has an issue with a parent and that they are not on the island, but in an psychiatric experiment that provides them the same reality whilst trying to cure them with the flashbacks the theraphy as such. The Others are the doctors or observers of the experiment. There are so many flashbacks showing the conflicts with family and the interconnects with the main characters is the fact they are are all in the same psychiatric experiment.

hmm, that sounds kinda good, i think there is more to it than that though, i think there is some sort of psychological experiment going on, but that it is a lot more complex than simply an issue with a parent. I think that there are some awesome ideas out there and that the show is a mix of them all.
that is also a good idea and maybe they took walt from michael to fix the things going on between them, like a test to get them to know each other better and love each other more and on the last episode when they leave on the boat maybe they completed the challenge and get to leave.also maybe jack was sent their to get over the loss of his dad.And locke had to get over the trouble with his dad. Kate to get over killing her mums boyfriend.And sun to be able to love who she wants without her father over their shoulder etc. so maybe i can see that thisis a very good possibility!
i belive the writers dont even know what is happening yet.they are just making it up as they go along.the story will no dought tie in with all the sponsers. ie sprite and verisign to mention but a few.
this is a very good idea and might just be the answer, though i would lean more to an insane asylum and that they are all in a coma or a vegetable state of mind and are being used for some kind of experiment or something, overall created to see what they will do in this enviornment and how they will correspond.
This theory makes sense. If you think about it, the characters are too well connected for it to be a coincident. Jack to Shannon and Boone’s dad (car crash), jack and his dad to sawyer (bar) and anna lucielle (australia) jack to desmond (running the steps) desmond to libby (boat) libby to hurley (crazy house) hurley was seen on TV in a Jin/Sun episode. Also, Mr. Eko’s involvement with the “miracle” of the Psycic’s daughter, and the Psycic is the reason Claire went on the Flight. Hurley was also listening to Driveshaft (Charlie) in a record store. Kelvin, the DHARMA worker on the island before the survivors, was the head interrogater of Sayid in the Gulf War. There are too many connections for it to be a coincident.
Also The men Sayid was travling with one of the in the van was kates father. He had a pictiure of her.
After seeing the episode with Hurley and Libby in Season 2, my whole take on the series was shaken. Top stuff - Libby in the same institute. I watched the next episode thinking that the surviors r in therapy - especially Jack going to the line and shouting, Interesting stuff
