Okay…. so it begins, the final attachment of the Hanso Foundation and the Dharma Initiative.

Persephone aka Rachel Blake aka Able Hacker has dropped hints, as has the new Dharma Video advertised at the Andfound.com homepage which I incidentally posted first Colin Anyways…. in revisting the Blast door map the orientaion video and the last two seasons of Lost on my Hard Drive… I have a theory, or two…

One… look at the following image, this has been enhanced by some industrious fellow, this talks about Cerebus quite a bit, for Greek Mythology buffs, Cerebus was a three-headed demon Dog guardian of the underworld known as Hades, or sometimes Archeron, Gahenna, or Hell to the common christian, now in a recent Dj Dan Podcast we hear talk of nanotechnology and “storm clouds” of nanites being controlled by a electromagnetic field… the island abounds in electromagnetism, compasses don’t point true north, equipment fails, ships navigation goes awry, Shortwave Electromagnetic energy is released to disasterous effects when a certain set of numbers are not inputed every 108 minutes, the same numerical sequence which shows up everywhere, ie Hurley and the lotto numbers, anyways, the point to this, I think I mentioned in a post already, is just the Mysterious “Monster” on the island, would be representative of and would operate in the same fashion as a swirling cloud of nanites, but we’ll get to this…

We also see this as the final resting place for Magnus Hanso at the black rock, I can only only make the following assumptions… and theories…

Sometime in the past, the Hanso patriarch, Magnus was involved with slavery and mining, and money (hmm human toil and misery for profit, sound like a modern day Hanso to anyone?) and on a slave run to a mining colony, the slave ship Black Rock took wrong headings via a electromagnetic pull from the island, and possibly during a typhoon or tropical storm which washed the ship far inland.

Years later, Hanso relatives, or even descendants find the island and their dear departed patriarch, Magnus, and at the same time discover the mystery and bizzarre occurances on the island (As prior to Dharma, and the Swan station and the button pushing there would have been no technology on the island to control the electromagnetic surges(unless the aliens theory means a spaceship burried deep beneath the island, which would be a whole other ballgame)) and at the same time, are not prisoners of the island and are able to return to Europe with this little nugget of information.

Flash forward a few centuries to the recent past, ie the 70’s when a couple of Doctoral students, Gerald and Karen De Groot somehow found a quote unquote sugar daddy to pay the bills for their idea of “a large-scale communal research compound where scientists and free-thinkers from around the globe could pursue research in meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, electromagnetism, and utopian-social-engineering” called the D.H.A.R.M.A. Initaitive, and as we now know the acronym to mean Department of Heuristics and Research on Material Applications. This was in the early 70s, and from the look of the blast door map, and from the habitation of the swan, the visit to both the ? ie the Pearl (something Radzinski did not know about according to the map and what few people seem to have caught from the episode where jin, michael and sawyer followed the tailies to their “hatch” in “…And found” the station was “the Arrow” and when claire returned to where she was taken for 2 weeks with Ethan, the episode was “Maternity Leave”, and the Station was the “Staff“. Now my theory is dealing at least with the stations, and Dharma as a whole is the name de Groot is a very common dutch name, we know the Hanso’s to be Danish only germany is between Denmark and the Netherlands, Mittlewerk is a German name…. anyways, the de Groots get Hanso to fund (possible family connection) the Dharma Initiative, Station 3 the Swan for Electromagnetic experimation, The Staff, a medical facility and definately involving psychology as well, station 5 - Arrow, and blah blah blah see this… for full classification, and then match this up with your general geography of the island, and match also with the blast door map, and you’ll have a good idea as to where the tailies and losties were in relation to one another when they crashed, where Dark territory is, where claire was taken and so on… the point to this is on top of the 6, technically 7+ stations (including the Pearl and other possible ones), there was also an on-island Dharmatel network, and a security system which was code named “Cerebus” and what better to protect your precious cabling, pipes and other assorted bric a brac one has in tiny little conduit tubes underground from the roots and such which would snake in, than industrious and microbial sized robots called nanites, on the cusp of an almost impossible technology called Nanotechnology.

Now, according the Persephone and other info sources, Dharm was terminated in 1987, the two orientation films shot in the late 70’s early 80’s would suggest a boom to the project at that time if it were accepting new candidates, and the project started say in 72, we’re looking at a small timeline for events… now in the orientation film for the Swan dated 1980 it mentions an incident relating to the swan and why the button has to be pushed every 108 minutes to prevent it, and makes one wonder what methods they used previous to the 10ft thick concrete poured over whatever the Swan sits atop, be it geomagnetic fissure, or what…. Now we’ve seen what happens when the button is not pushed, say that was what happened in the 70’s, and during an electromagnetic surge such as we saw in the finale, and if it was what took the plane out of the sky that fateful day, a boeing 777 at 30,000 feet, then can you imagine what it must have done to all the happy little industrious nanites in the conduits, why if the EMP didn’t short them out, why is must have drove them crazy, or awakened their gentle sensibilities in a bad way, now say this became a huge swirling cloud, a group mind hive like creature, able to think independently, and if somehow malfunctioning in their mandate to destroy any living organisms in the conduits expanded into the open on a killing spree, then we could have a potential problem, ie a killer cloud of smoke, which can sound or move like or what whatever it wants as it is truly only billions and trillions of little amoeba sized robots held together by the strange electromagnetics of the island. Now of course as the creators of said nanites, they would have tried to find a way to countermand this new mandate in their former service drones, and since they couldn’t just turn them off, they manufactured or generated a virus or possibly an anti nanite, somethign that would drive the Cerebus security system away, or at least train it to stay reasonably within it’s realm unless threatened…. I’m still a little fuzzy on the part and I’m really stretching, so please bear with me… now the people who remained after the initiative was terminated essentiially stuck a raw recruit “Radzinski” into the swan to keep pushing the button, someone say who had come to the island only a week before the termination and wasn’t privy to all the secrets of the place, while these “other” Dharma Initiative survivors formed a new group, bent on continuing their studies, and conducting mind experiments and so forth… And therefore, Radzinski, being told the worse lets say was left alone for a long time and only able to explore the island within a 54 minute travel radius, as he had to keep pushing the button every 108 minutes alone. Kelvin, whom we saw in Iraq with Sayid in a flashback somehow came to the island, after rousseau and her team crashed on the reefs. Kelvin hooked up with Radzinski, who by now I’m sure was quite insane from the isolation (the others wouldn’t have anything to do with him I assume) and after her showed him all the secrets he had learned, he shot himself, or possibly Kelvin even killed him, as he was a torturer and wetworks agent in the Army. Anyways, kelvin was now alone to push the button, until Desmond arrived, and we know it from there from what we’ve seen in the show… I’m going to bed now…. tomorrow night, Part Two, How the Characters Relate and the Significance of the Numbers in those relations, and how it ties fate, faith and technology into one of the greatest ideas of a show in all time…
