The Foot with Four Toes

The season finale of Lost, “Live Together, Die Alone” answered a lot of questions about the show and raised many more in the process. The one scene that intrigued me the most was the discovery of the foot with four toes. Unless the Dharma Initiative has set up another prop on the island this could only mean that the island was inhabited long before the arrival of the Hanso Foundation.
I believe the writers are foreshadowing a lot of island exploration during season three. If Sayid, Sun and Jin make it back to the beach safely the boat will provide a quick way to travel around the island.
The ruins of this statue bare resemblance to “Headlong Hall” written by Thomas Love Peacock but in his writings the statue had four toes remaining, where the statue from Lost had four toes by design.
Also, Jay and Jack pointed out some of the similarities the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the world, in their latest podcast.
