As promised by the ABC promos “someone on the island [did] not survive another day”. I was not expecting Mr. Eko to be man-handled like that by the black smoke but I think it was a fitting farewell.
Notes
- I enjoyed Eko’s flashbacks and the reason behind his island church project (How he owed a church to his brother).
- The man seen in the monitor at the Pearl Hatch was creepy. He had an eyepatch and a Dharma jumpsuit on.. Could he be the owner of the glass eye from the Arrow?
- Jack figures out that the x-rays are Ben’s and tells him that if not treated the damage will be fatale. Ben reveals that they were planning on breaking him down to make him want to help.
- Juliet plays a movie for Jack and apologizes for Ben, but on the movie she recorded a hidden message saying that Ben is very dangerous. Jack is asked to do the surgery but kill Ben in the process.
- Locke told the group that Eko’s last words were, “we are next”. Could that mean that they’re next to be killed by the smoke or next to be abducted by “Others”

I am very disappointed that Mr. Eko was the one to go. He was probably one of the superior actors on the show. What a waste of such a talent. I certainly wish the actor the best of luck in his next move.
I’ve been a fan since episode 1 season 1 and all I can say about season 3 so far is.
meh.
i’m totally Bummed. The writing in season 3 keeps letting me down. I feel like the depth of the charactes living at the beach camp has been drained a little. It just seems like the writers for charlie, hurley, locke and desmond, are phoning it in.
Nothings meshing, just seems like a bunch of unrelated vignettes.
And who the hell let those red shirts speak?
AARRGH.
This episode really confused me. Ben said in the second season while being held in the hatch vault that God had no idea about this place (island). Now he said he beleives God brought Jack to the Island to operate on him??
I agree with Shannon but I think his character was at the end of its rope. Its probably best for the show and the actor to have killed Eko.
And im not really feeling these new “red shirts”.
Hey I know this is a minor detail,
but remember way back two seasons ago, when hurley and Sadiq had that little hand held, and they picked up a music signal, and they later talk about how they got that single just once. This is relevent PROMISE! last night at the funeral they broadcast that music for Col’s funeral. I guess funerals prob don’t happen much, so wouldn’t make sense that the signal they got could have been from a funeral, it would make sense if the signal was coming from nearby. Which raises the question: “whose funeral was it?” could it have been the others dude that infiltrated the tailies, or someone else?
Is it just me, or is the ominous gray smoke not so ominous? Personally, I’m okay with saying goodbye to Mr. Eko, but come on — couldn’t they come up with something better than the “iron fist” of supernatural smoke? Lame.
The black smoke - I know! - what was that about? rubbish.
I’m in agreement about these “red shirts” too. I’m not sure you can leave all the other losties out on the action, and then just bring them on in when the numbers are down for adventure time.
The storyline with Juliet is quite exciting and raises a lot of questions - because we always need more of them. Just like - Where are Sun and Jin? Why didn’t Sayid mention them? What about Michael and Walt? Uh - Black smoke? Who can we trust!!?
Speaking of Michael and Walt going back to the real world, if Ben’s spine is that bad, and he knows the way ‘home’ why didn’t he travel to get a doctor? Perhaps that would mean never coming back to the Island.
I thought it was quite a good episode for Otherville side. Looking forward to next week.
Maybey the fact is Ben cannot leave the island, if he leaves the tumor will kill him.
Im lost with Lost (:S) right now, and this 6 weeks mini season is going to leave everyone with alot more questions than ever. I mean, one episode left, how much can they show us.
Too many questions, too little time. We need more Lost!!!!
What I want to know is, What is with this “mini-season”? Does that mean we don’t get any more new episodes after next week until after Christmas? That would suck.
Ok, so the island can cure Locke’s legs as well as cure Rose’s cancer. Why can it not cure Ben’s cancer?
I love watching Mr. Eko is was awesome. I will miss seeing him on the show.

It has never been a violent show, it has never been a mean show. I want to puke on lost.
