Lost returns with a bang – not knowing what to expect from the season premiere of Lost, except from what was shown during the commercials, I was hoping for another shocking reveal like last season. As usual lost didn’t disappoint, I should have known better but I was not expecting the first scene to be on the island.
What we learned from “A Tale of Two Cities”
- “The Others”
campcommunity is well kept and in the center of the island. - Henry Gale’s real name is Ben, he appears to be the leader of the “others” as expected.
- Jack and presumably the rest of the captured survivors are being held in a new Dharma hatch called “The Hydra”
- Sharks, Dolphins and Polar Bears were kept at “The Hydra”
Henry GaleBen tells Kate over a beach-side breakfast that “The next two weeks are going to be very unpleasant”- Jack’s wife did not sleep with his Father. Jack accuses him and drives him to start drinking once again.
- “The Others” have a “life file” on Jack and presumably the rest of the survivors. Maybe thats why Ben wanted a list?
Points of Interest
- “The Others” book club was reading Stephen Kings, “Carrie”.
- In Greek mythology, the Lernaean Hydra was an ancient nameless serpent-like chthonic water beast that possessed numerous heads – Wikipedia

Good summary. What I find interesting is that the Hydra station was mentioned in the video podcast by Damon and Carlton. When they mentioned it they could have been acting to have accidentilly mentioned it, or joking or something. I didn’t think much of it but they weren’t joking, they Hydra station is real :p
Looks like Jack (from Jay and Jack) was right. I would have never, ever, ever guessed it.
Great to see lost back and I thought this episode was great when it started but I was losing interest with the focus on the 3 prisoners…I was slightly hoping we would see Hurley get back to camp but of course thats to come.
Welcome Back Lost!!!
Explains the polar bears in season 1. Interesting.
I am getting so discouraged with this show. There are NEVER any answers just more questions. Am I the only one that feels like this? I keep telling myself that I am not going to watch it.And what do I do??? Watch it.. this sucks.. They have me right where they want me
I was a little disappointed with the premiere…
The beginning was INSANE! But the rest was quite predictable. I think this episode wasn’t the best, but one you need to see tom understand everything else.
On a scale of 1-10 i’d have to say…

I gotta agree with LOST FANATIC. I was pretty disappointed with the premier outside of the intro which blew me away. To be perfectly honest the flashbacks to Jack’s wife and father felt like ‘padding’ to me, and didn’t really seem to pertain to anything. All that time could have been better spent on the core story IMO.
Stephen King had an interesting quote on lost, in which he implored the writers not to use the flashback padding as a way of drawing out the series for the ABC money machine.
I hope the series continues to stay strong on substance, and not become full of filler scenes. Hopefully this episode was just a fluke.
Well, well, well. Lookie here!
It’s Rev! W00t!
I only saw about the last 20 minutes or so of the season premiere…I know, how DARE I call myself a LOST fan?
Just checking in. It was a good 20 minutes though.
This was a sloooooooow episode. I’m really, really tired of Jack and his wife issues. Actually, it was more of a property (…the name of the man that’s with MY WIFE) and ego issue. She never seemed to mean much to him until she decided to leave. He’s in serious need of some maturity! Hard-headed, opinionated and self righteous - not the best kind of guy to be trapped on an island with. At least with ‘24′ you never finish an episode wondering why they took so long to tell you so little!
Did anyone notice…The “literary club” spent much of its discussion on whether henry/Ben would have liked the book, but he wasn’t there. After he dispatched the two people to infiltrate the survivors, he turned to Juliet and said “I guess I’m out of the literary club.” I wonder if the houses are bugged. The whole settlement seems like a cross between the villages in the TV series “the Prisoner” and the movie “The Village.” Also it’s interesting he instructed the two guys to infiltrate, not to help. Interesting behavior for “the good guys.” Finally, what is the name of the actress who played Juliet? She lookd awfully familiar, but I can’t quite place her. She looks a little like Cherry Jones from Signs and like the actress who played the wife in Miracle, but younger than either of them.
1.) He said he was out of the literary club because he saw the book in her hands. She said that he wouldn’t like it, and he was right. As far as bugging…it’s a definite possibility, but I just wanted to point out that she was indeed holding the book.
2.) She plays the principal/love interest/wife/Mrs. Claus in Santa Clause 2, if that’s any consellation. But that’s where I remember her from–her name is Elizabeth Mitchell, and she was in Gia (1998), Molly (1999), Nurse Betty (2000), Frequency (2000), Hollywood Palms (2001), The Santa Clause 2 (2002), 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story (2004), The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006), and Running Scared (2006).
I don’t understand those that say that the show only has more questions! That’s what the show’s about… If they told everything then the show had no point, right? I hope season 3 brings answers, but I’m really hoping for more dark misteries. It’s just too bad that season 3 only premieres in 2007 here in Europe.
Hugo, Portugal.
GOD i love lost i can’t wait next year until i see season 3 im so jealous of you americans!!!you guys are so lucky!!!! i have read a detailed synopsis of lost 3:01 sounds amazing i want answers and more questions!!!!
i was also getting kind of bored when it kept going back to jack, kate and saywer. i wanted to see what happenedin the hatch with locke, eko and desmond!
The file on Jack’s life, seems as if it was aquired by some powerful connections(cia, fbi, etc.) by the others. That is the feel I get from the non spoken dialog which passes between Jack and Julliet. But since all three captives had IV/ needle marks, what about sodium pentothal?…She (Julliet) told Jack the drugs he was given would cause dehydration (sodium=salt=dehydration??). Plus everything she told Jack, he would have known about his own life, and he never inquired about the ex’s lovers name, which he did not know, and neither would they??
I think him not inquiring on the guys name shows that he is moving past the jealousy and hurt … and genuinely concerned, now, for her well-being. He wouldn’t have known if she was happy now, or not.
Also, I don’t know that severe dehydration is a side affect of sodium pentothal (thiopental) though headache, delirium, somnolence and nausea are. I don’t know why they would use sodium pentothal, unless they just wanted to anaesthetize them. Clearly they already had all the information they needed about them.
The Other’s community is actually in the crater depicted in Rousseau’s maps… not in the sheltered interior as previously thought…. the tail section landed just to the north of that area, and the fuselage to the northeast…
sorry… morthwest
This is being debated over in the forums in the thread linked below. Though, I am of the mind, as you’ll read, that the Others’ community is not in the crater.

[…] I am glad that I recorded it because right away there was a scene where a cd was being put into the cd player and I thought to myself, ‘hey that’s the Talking Heads, cool’. Only when the song started, it wasn’t. So, I ‘jumped’ the video back and sure enough, there was a short clip of the inside of the jewel case and it was the Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues. I chalked it up to a lack of continuity, but Torleif over at p7389 thinks that it was due to the cds being put away in the wrong cases. Funny how so much happened in this episode, but this small point is what I chose to write about… Over at And Found, you will find a list of what the season premiere revealed.  This site is also a great source for reminding yourself what happened in previous episodes, as well as providing several ‘theories’ about what is going on.
